The Cause

At Daniel Webster High School, in order for us to do more than teach our students, we must find a way to connect with our students.  One way we can connect with our students is to become involved with struggles they are experiencing on a day-to-day basis. Students need to know we care about what is important to them, that we will support them and we will do anything we can to fulfill their needs.  For us, we saw a need at Daniel Webster High School and we decided to do something about it. This need we are trying to solve is our students' need for school uniforms. With the help of our community in and outside West Tulsa, we believe we can combat this problem and provide a better school environment for our kids.

This year our district enacted a uniform standard for all TPS high schools. With adding uniform requirements we also added a huge responsibility to our youth and their parents to provide uniform attire.  For some, this new uniform requirement will be a relief to a constant battle with fitting in, being noticed or a preventing bullying based on one's looks.  For others, this mandate will add another struggle to an already large stack of burdens they currently face inside and outside our classroom.  Money is needed to purchase another set of clothes, possibly multiple sets of clothes, adding to the family's cost in providing school every year for their kids.

Currently, there are excellent organizations tackling this problem in Tulsa, but these organizations are trying to meet a growing need for 40,000 or more students within TPS.  As the seasons change, so will the need for individual uniform requirements.  The cost will increase each year for the uniforms and the need will grow with it.  So, our school is going to make a difference together and make this change locally.  We will still ask for support from those gracious organizations, but we are going to try our best to support the cause in-house and develop a system to supply uniforms to Webster Warriors and hopefully the West Side.

With your help, I believe we can supply our entire student population with uniforms to meet our uniform policy.  To supply every student attending Daniel Webster High School with uniform tops only, we roughly need $2,700. This may seem like a large amount to most but as a community we can chip away at this price one donation at a time. We believe together we can acheive our long-term goal of providing every student with a uniform. We need a few things to make this long-term goal happen.  From you, we need clothes and monetary donations.  We will take any polo colored royal blue or white, short-sleeve or long-sleeve,and the polo must not display a brand logo.  Also, we need hoodies for the winter seasons. These hoodies can be royal blue, black or white. The items listed are a top priority for our students to succeed at Webster high school. We have also set up an account with Bank of Oklahoma to accept monetary donations for this cause.  We will use your monetary donations to stock our supply of uniforms for all Webster students.
